Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to push to land Cody Gakpo, but a deal for the Liverpool star may not be entirely in their hands.
Spurs are trying to put the final touches to their attack ahead of the new season, with Roberto De Zerbi admitting he expects at least two more signings to arrive through the door.
Spurs have stepped up their pursuit of Gakpo over the last week, but a deal for the Dutchman is proving anything but straightforward.
This is because Liverpool have not shown any interest in coming to the negotiating table for the 27-year-old, even though the player is willing to join Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

Some outlets have claimed over recent days that the Reds may not sell Gakpo even if they land Bradley Barcola from PSG over the coming weeks.
Journalist Pete O’Rourke has now revealed that if Liverpool make multiple additions to their forward line, their stance on Gakpo may change.
He also insisted that Spurs would have to put more than £70m on the table to have any chance of securing the former PSV Eindhoven man.
O’Rourke told Football Insider: “As things stand, right now, Liverpool do not plan on selling Cody Gakpo despite Tottenham’s interest. A lot will depend on what Liverpool do on the incomings during the rest of the transfer window if more signings are to arrive, because Iraola does not want to weaken his squad.
“If the likes of Barcola and Mbaye, and potentially others, arrive at Anfield, then that could open the door for Cody Gakpo to leave Liverpool.
“The only way he could possibly move would be if Spurs were to make a huge offer of £70 million plus at least, and if Liverpool brought in more players. As I said, as things stand right now, with the squad a bit short, they can’t really afford to let Gakpo go.”
Fabrizio Romano rates Spurs’ chances of landing Gakpo
Based on O’Rourke’s assessment, it seems like Spurs may have to wait until the dying stages of the window to have a chance of landing Gakpo, with Liverpool wanting to first bring multiple replacements through the door.
However, Fabrizio Romano thinks Spurs fans have reason to be a little more optimistic about the possibility of coming to N17.
The journalist said Tottenham have a 50 per cent chance of landing Gakpo, adding that De Zerbi’s men are still working hard to clinch a deal.
