Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to work hard on a deal for Sandro Tonali as they look to reinforce their central midfield area further following the addition of Mateus Fernandes.

Spurs fans are on cloud nine after the Lilywhites completed a club record deal for Mateus Fernandes, with the North Londoners beating out Man United to the 21-year-old.

It is a big statement of ambition from the Tottenham hierarchy, who are expected to continue flexing the financial muscle over the coming days and weeks.

It has been widely reported that Spurs are continuing to work on a deal for Tonali, despite landing Fernandes, and it has now emerged that the Lilywhites are making progress in their pursuit of the Newcastle man.

Tottenham increasingly confident of securing Sandro Tonali

TEAMtalk have now claimed that Spurs are growing ‘increasingly confident’ of winning the race for the Italy international after agreeing personal terms with the midfielder.

The report says that Tonali is set to command a salary of £300k per week, with bonuses at the North London club, which would make him comfortably the highest-paid player at the club.

A deal in the region of £100m could persuade Newcastle to sell the former AC Milan man, with Tottenham willing to meet that valuation.

The report says that the Lilywhites are now ‘two steps away’ from finalising a deal for Tonali, with the deal subject to the club finalising a transfer package with Newcastle and the player passing a medical.

Talks between the North Londoners and the Magpies are ongoing, and they are set to intensify over the coming days.

Reasons why Tonali is keen on Spurs move

TEAMtalk reveal that Roberto De Zerbi has been a ‘key factor’ in convincing the midfielder regarding a move to N17, with Tonali said to be ‘highly enthusiastic’ about playing under the Tottenham boss.

The 46-year-old’s vision for the club has won sway with the Newcastle man, who is also said to be excited about relocating to a vibrant city like London after three years in the North East.

Finally, the publication adds that Tonali’s desire to depart St James’ Park has also added momentum to Tottenham’s negotiations.
