‘You cannot punch’ – Tottenham star called an embarrassment to Spurs for touchline antics

Gabby Agbonlahor has launched a fierce criticism of Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, with the former Aston Villa striker tearing into the Italian’s performances and behaviour during Spurs’ recent clash with Everton.

There is a clear need for a major overhaul of the Tottenham Hotspur squad, given the Premier League season the club has just endured.

Consecutive 17th-place finishes across two seasons are a clear indication that something is not right with the personnel at the club, particularly when the most recent campaign descended into a full-blown relegation battle – one that Tottenham ultimately survived.

However, following their dismal 25/26 season, Spurs’ non-executive chairman, Peter Charrington, stated that Spurs do have a plan to remain competitive on the pitch, including being active in the summer transfer market.

Meanwhile, Roberto De Zerbi has stated that Tottenham have at least 12 players they can build their squad around going into next season, while calling for work to begin in preparation for the next campaign.

Tottenham told to move on Guglielmo Vicario

The overhaul expected in north London is not just about the players coming in, but also about the “deadwood” that needs to be moved on.

Spurs must identify those who are surplus to requirements and allow them to leave in order to make room for fresh faces in the squad.

Former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor now believes he has identified one player Tottenham should get rid of.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Agbonlahor criticised Guglielmo Vicario’s displays for Spurs and also took aim at the Italian’s behaviour during the Everton game, claiming the goalkeeper has become an embarrassment for the football club, before naming him as one he would get rid of.

He said, “And Vicario, I’m watching the game, I’m listening to the commentary with Gary Neville – he was spot on. This goalkeeper has done nothing in a Spurs shirt, been dreadful, and there’s a clip of him offering out Seamus Coleman.

“Vicario, we’ve seen you punch mate, you cannot punch the ball, you are not going to be able to punch anybody, so we know you cannot fight. Have some respect for a Premier League legend in Seamus Coleman.

“But that summed up Vicario yesterday, all over the sideline trying to be a coach, jumping on the manager’s back when they scored the first goal. Palhinha, I think he’s an embarrassment to that football club. I’d get rid of him.”

Tottenham fans may agree with Gabby Agbonlahor verdict

Many Tottenham fans will agree that perhaps Vicario’s time in north London is up, given his displays between the sticks this season.

The Italian was far from an assured figure during most of the 25/26 campaign, with costly mistakes made at various points – not just with his shot-stopping, but his kicking as well.

Antonin Kinsky, however, came in for him during the final few games of the season, and many Spurs supporters are convinced that Kinsky should now be starting ahead of Vicario.

Roberto De Zerbi may also be thinking the same, as the Italian opted to start Kinsky over the more experienced goalkeeper in the final two games of Spurs’ season despite Vicario returning to full fitness.

Finding a new club may not be difficult for the Italian either, with Inter Milan firmly in the race to secure Vicario’s services this summer.
