Aston Villa could replace Youri Tielemans with £14.6m Tottenham Europa League winner

Pape Matar Sarr’s future at Tottenham has taken another turn after a fresh report claimed Aston Villa are seriously considering a move for the Spurs midfielder before the transfer window closes.

Despite Roberto De Zerbi describing Pape Sarr as a ‘crucial’ player for Tottenham, several reports throughout the summer have suggested that the Lilywhites are prepared to cash in on him after he struggled for consistent minutes last season.

The midfielder’s chances of playing regularly have become even slimmer following Tottenham’s £185m investment in Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes this summer, with both arrivals expected to push Sarr even further down the pecking order.

The Senegal international joined Spurs from Metz in 2021 in a deal worth around £14.6m and was tipped to become a key figure in North London. While he has shown flashes of his quality, his time at the club has also been marked by inconsistency.

Interest in the 23-year-old has already emerged from both the Premier League and Serie A this summer, and another club has now entered the picture.

Aston Villa want to replace Youri Tielemans with Pape Sarr

According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are ‘big admirers’ of Pape Matar Sarr and could make a move for him before the transfer window closes on 1 September.

The report explains that Villa are still looking to strengthen in midfield after selling Youri Tielemans to Manchester United and losing Amadou Onana to a long-term injury.

Although they have recently completed the signing of Joao Gomes, Unai Emery’s side are still expected to add another midfielder before the deadline.

The same report also claims Sarr himself is looking to leave Spurs this summer in search of more regular first-team football after slipping further down the pecking order following the arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes.

Tottenham are understood to be willing to let the 23-year-old move on if the right offer comes in, with De Zerbi happy with the depth in his midfield.

Another Premier League club could ‘revisit’ a deal for Pape Matar Sarr

Brentford were one of the first clubs credited with an interest in Sarr earlier this summer while they were searching for midfield reinforcements, but nothing materialised at the time.

However, Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe recently claimed that Brentford could ‘revisit’ a move for the Senegal international after losing the experienced Jordan Henderson to Chelsea recently.

Elsewhere, Napoli have also explored a move for Sarr as they continue searching for a replacement for Frank Zambo Anguissa.

However, journalist George Sessions revealed only a few days ago that no club has yet shown a willingness to meet Tottenham’s valuation of the former Metz midfielder.
