Brighton and Hove Albion have reportedly entered the race for Luka Vuskovic, with the Seagulls making an ambitious move for one of Tottenham’s brightest young prospects.
Luka Vuskovic joined Tottenham Hotspur from Hajduk Split in 2023 but is still waiting to make his competitive debut for the club.
The 19-year-old did catch the eye during pre-season under Thomas Frank, even getting on the scoresheet in the Dane’s first match in charge, before being sent out on loan to Hamburger SV for the campaign, where he produced numbers that placed him among some of the most highly-rated defenders in Europe.
His long-term future remains uncertain, however. Tottenham are keen to tie the Croatian down to a new contract, while another loan move remains a possibility amid growing interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich. Now, another unexpected suitor has emerged.

Brighton enter the race for Luka Vuskovic
Tottenham’s centre-back situation remains far from settled despite the arrival of Marcos Senesi, particularly with Cristian Romero’s future in north London still up in the air.
That uncertainty has seen Spurs pursue Brighton defender Jan Paul van Hecke, with two bids already rejected as they fall short of the Seagulls’ reported £70 million valuation. As we have previously reported, negotiations between the clubs remain ongoing.
An intriguing new development has now emerged involving both clubs. According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Brighton have submitted a £30 million bid to sign Vuskovic from Tottenham.
The report adds that the Croatian is familiar with Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler from his time in Germany, with a strong level of mutual respect between the pair. Vuskovic is also said to view Brighton as one of the best clubs in Europe when it comes to developing young talent, something that could make the proposal particularly appealing.
Tottenham cannot afford to get Luka Vuskovic wrong
It is easy to understand why this news may frustrate some Spurs supporters.
Vuskovic is widely regarded as one of the best young defensive prospects in world football and many would argue that £30 million falls well short of what he could eventually be worth. In fact, many experts in the game believe the Croatian’s ceiling is even higher than that of Jan Paul van Hecke.
That said, the situation is not quite so straightforward. Tottenham already have several centre-backs competing for minutes, and with no European football next season, opportunities will be limited. Asking Vuskovic to battle Van Hecke, Kevin Danso and others for game time may not be ideal for his development.
Regular football remains the priority at this stage of Vuskovic’s development, which makes a quick decision unlikely. SpursWeb previously reported that the 19-year-old plans to assess his future after the World Cup with Croatia, and another strong tournament could see his stock rise even further, giving Tottenham little reason to rush into accepting any offer.
