Liverpool continue to monitor Luka Vuskovic: Tottenham starlet makes transfer shortlist

Andoni Iraola appears to share the same view as his predecessor, Arne Slot, when it comes to one of Tottenham’s brightest prospects, Luka Vuskovic.

Luka Vuskovic‘s future has been the subject of growing speculation over the past few weeks despite the teenager not having made a competitive appearance for Tottenham yet.

Spurs have already completed a deal for Marcos Senesi and remain locked in talks with Brighton over Jan Paul van Hecke, while Vuskovic’s outstanding loan spell at Hamburg has only increased interest in his services. The 19-year-old emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s standout young defenders last season and has attracted admirers from some of Europe’s biggest clubs, including Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

Tottenham, however, are doing everything they can to keep hold of the Croatian. Reports suggest the club are preparing a new contract for Vuskovic, a move that would effectively underline that he is not for sale.

There have also been claims that he could extend his deal before heading back to Hamburg on loan, although Vuskovic himself suggested the chances of that happening were just “0.01 per cent”.

Liverpool continue to monitor Luka Vuskovic situation at Tottenham

We previously reported that Luka Vuskovic was on Liverpool’s shortlist of defensive targets, with the Reds expected to enter the market for a centre-back should Ibrahima Konate leave Anfield this summer.

That situation has now materialised, with Konate closing in on a move to Real Madrid and an official announcement expected soon.

Despite Liverpool’s managerial change, with Andoni Iraola replacing Arne Slot in the dugout, the club’s admiration for Vuskovic has not changed. According to CaughtOffside, the Merseyside club continue to monitor the teenager’s situation closely, although no formal approach has been made.

There is, however, some encouraging news for Tottenham supporters. The report claims Liverpool’s priority is to sign a left-footed centre-back who can immediately step into the starting XI for both Premier League and Champions League football.

Vuskovic does not currently fit either of those requirements, with the Reds instead also considering alternatives such as Murillo and Goncalo Inacio.

Jan Paul van Hecke pursuit could shape Luka Vuskovic’s next step

Tottenham are expected to officially unveil Marcos Senesi in the coming weeks and continue negotiations with Brighton over Jan Paul van Hecke.

While both deals would strengthen Roberto De Zerbi’s defence, they could also complicate Vuskovic’s immediate pathway into the first team.

According to Alasdair Gold, many experts in the game believe the Croatian possesses an exceptionally high ceiling, perhaps even higher than some of the defenders currently being targeted by Spurs. However, development at his age requires regular minutes, something that may be difficult to guarantee given Tottenham will not be competing in Europe next season.

Gold has also suggested that Spurs’ determination to sign Van Hecke points towards another loan move for Vuskovic in 2026/27. The defender is expected to wait until after the World Cup before making a final decision on both his contract situation and the next stage of his career.
