Liverpool are one of several Premier League clubs credited with an interest in Tottenham star Djed Spence, who faces an uncertain future in N17.
While Inter Milan were the first club to signal an interest in Spence this summer, before withdrawing from the race, the full-back has understandably become a wanted man among Premier League clubs over the last week.
That is broadly due to the 25-year-old’s outstanding displays at the World Cup, with the Spurs man being one of England’s best players from the tournament.
Newcastle United, Manchester United and Liverpool have been credited with an interest in Spence, who faces an uncertain future at N17.
Liverpool are not working on a deal for Tottenham’s Djed Spence
The Reds’ interest in the Spurs defender potentially gives the Lilywhites a trump card in their Cody Gakpo pursuit, with the Dutchman said to be near the top of De Zerbi’s wishlist. Tottenham are said to want at least £35m for Spence this summer.
However, it has now been revealed by journalist Ben Jacobs that Liverpool are not working on a deal to sign Spence, with Andoni Iraola’s men focusing on other targets instead.
The journalist adds that the Tottenham man is open to an exit from N17 and has been offered to many clubs.
Jacobs wrote on X: “Liverpool not currently working on Djed Spence. Spence is open to a move away from Spurs and has been offered to several clubs, but LFC are focused on other targets as it stands.”
Roberto De Zerbi will not convince Spence to stay at Spurs
Reports indicate Spence’s game time is expected to be limited next season if he stays at Spurs, which is why the Lilywhites are willing to cash in on the player at the right price.
However, even though the 25-year-old Tottenham star is pushing for a move, the Lilywhites are not actively working to get him out the door.
De Zerbi has said he would like Spence to stay, but that he would never convince him to do so, hinting that he cannot offer guarantees of starts for any player.
