Inter Milan have decided to pursue just one of Djed Spence and Cristian Romero after holding talks with Tottenham Hotspur regarding both players.
Spence and Romero are two of five more senior players expected to exit Spurs this summer, as part of the club’s rebuild.
The centre-back and the full-back enjoyed exceptional World Cup campaigns for Argentina and England respectively, which should help the Lilywhites in their quest to get decent fees for the pair.
It was reported last week that Spurs offered Romero to Inter Milan when the Serie A club enquired about Spence, and since then, it has emerged over recent days that the Nerazzurri and the Lilywhites have continued discussions regarding both players.

On Wednesday morning, it emerged that Romero’s suitors are expected to make new contacts with the centre-back’s camp, as the centre-back seeks an exit from Tottenham.
Now, SportsMedia set journalist Orazio Accomando has confirmed that Inter have indeed made fresh contacts with the Spurs captain over a move to San Siro.
He adds that the 28-year-old is now the ‘favourite’ to fill the central defensive vacancy at the reigning Serie A champions this summer.
Accomando wrote on X: “Inter, new contacts for Cuti Romero. The Argentine is the favourite for the central defender role.”

However, the same journalist revealed on social media that Spence, who was Inter’s main target initially, is no longer considered a realistic option for the Italian side.
He revealed that Spurs are demanding £40m for the 25-year-old, which is considered ‘excessively high’ by Cristian Chivu’s men.
Accomando wrote on X: “Exclusive: Inter has decided for the moment not to proceed for Spence. Tottenham’s request for the winger exceeds 40M pounds (about 47M euros), a figure deemed excessively high by the Nerazzurri club, which continues to evaluate several profiles.”
