Djed Spence’s Tottenham Hotspur future continues to hang in the balance after the full-back’s reputation blossomed at the World Cup.
Many Tottenham fans do not want to see the 25-year-old sold after he showed on the biggest stage this summer that he has elite athletic and one-v-one attributes.
However, reports indicate that Spence’s game time is expected to be limited next season if he stays at Spurs, which is why the Lilywhites are willing to cash in on the player at the right price.
Spurs and Inter Milan have been locked in talks over a deal for Spence over the last few days, but the Nerazzurri potentially have to deal with a price rise after the defender’s exceptional performances at the World Cup.
Djed Spence is not pushing for a move away from Tottenham
Despite seeing Spurs sign Andy Robertson this summer to challenge Destiny Udogie for the left-back role, Spence does not necessarily have his heart set on an exit.
This is according to journalist George Sessions, who has now revealed on Last Word on Spurs that the 25-year-old is not pushing to leave the North London club this summer.
The journalist also claimed that Spurs are not actively looking to move Spence on this summer, but he added that they would accept any ‘big offer’ that arrives for the player.
Sessions said: “I don’t think Djed is pushing for a move, from what I have been told. I think it’s just that there is a lot of interest in him and the people around him are going to have clubs asking about him because he’s had a wonderful World Cup.
“I think Spurs are not actively looking to sell him but if a big offer came in – they’ve obviously got Pedro Porro locked down on a new long-term contract and now finally have cover at left back. If a big offer came in, then they would accept it. But I don’t think Djed is pushing.”
Inter Milan want Spurs to offer a discount for Spence
It was reported by Corriere dello Sport on Wednesday that Tottenham have asked Inter to pay €40m (£34m) for Spence, with at least €35m (£29.8m) in guaranteed fees.
However, the outlet revealed that the Nerazzurri are hoping to get a discount as they believe that the player wants to move to the San Siro.
Spence is also attracting interest from Premier League clubs, and there is thus room for a few more twists and turns in the race for the former Middlesbrough man’s future.
