Spurs remain without a league win and will be hoping to secure a victory on their own turf when the Toffees visit Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Both sides head into the weekend’s game off the back of draws. Goalkeeper – Jordan Pickford: Antonin Kinsky has managed a clean sheet already this season, with that coming in the clash against Forest, which is the same as Pickford. However, in terms of goals conceded, Spurs have shipped more while Everton have conceded far fewer, and for that reason Pickford earns the spot in goal.
Right-back – Pedro Porro: There is certainly no debate here. Porro simply offers more at right-back than Rohl. The Spaniard is a World Cup winner and carries not only goal threat but also creativity from deep and out wide.
Centre-back – Micky van de Ven: The Dutchman’s pace is a huge bonus and would naturally complement whoever he is paired with defensively. Jarrad Branthwaite is certainly a top centre-back and could easily make this team, but van de Ven just has a slight edge thanks to his pace, something Branthwaite does not offer.
Centre-back – James Tarkowski: Talk about goals, defending and leadership – Tarkowski brings all of that, and for that reason he makes our team of the season. He has already bagged a goal this season as well.
Left-back – Destiny Udogie: At left-back we have gone with Udogie, and that is simply down to the tactical flexibility he offers a manager. If you are looking to have him invert, he is capable of doing just that. If he is to hold the width, he can also do that well. His pace allows him to track back, and he is strong in one‑v‑one defending. For that, the Tottenham man edges out Mykolenko.
Defensive midfielder – Rodrigo Bentancur: In the holding role, we would have Bentancur, and that is down to his monster performance against Nottingham Forest, where he impressed both with and without the ball. Bentancur managed an impressive 18 defensive contributions while also keeping things ticking in midfield with his passing and control. He never stopped running.
Centre-midfielder – Mateus Fernandes: It certainly is a tough call for the number eight spot, as James Garner is a top player. However, Fernandes edges this solely because of his ability to perform as an eight and the creativity he carries. He offers tactical flexibility in midfield – if you are looking to mix things up and go for a game, he can come on and bring attacking threat; if you want to defend, he can also do a job as a six. He has been Spurs’ most creative player this season, so he just makes this XI.
Centre-midfielder – Kiernan Dewsbury‑Hall: Partnering Fernandes is Dewsbury‑Hall, who has been impressive this season and should offer great balance to the side. He is strong on the ball and brings goals, while also offering great work rate off it.
Right‑winger – Savio: We have Savio here, and that is down to his brief cameo in the Carabao Cup game where he showed what he is about with a goal and an assist. He has only made one appearance in the league, but should he get into a rhythm, he is a real threat. Everton have deployed Johnson on the right this season since Ndiaye’s departure, and he did not offer much against United.
Centre‑forward – Thierno Barry: This is certainly the easiest pick of them all, as Spurs simply have not found the back of the net, so it is hard to justify any of their strikers in this XI. Hopefully that changes at the weekend.
Left‑winger – Tyrique George: Fair play to the youngster, who is having an impressive season at Everton after being handed a starting role. He has already done more than Tel so far this season. George’s goal against United was superb. If Tel was in a similar position, would he take a strike? Would he even hit the target? De Zerbi has complained about Tel’s decision‑making, and that needs to improve.
