Richarlison’s search for a new club continues despite the transfer window having closed in England and across Europe, but a move to Vasco remains possible this month, and we’ve now put together everything we know about the latest developments in the Tottenham transfer saga.
Tottenham Hotspur have seen plenty of drama in the Richarlison transfer saga over the last 24 hours, as the Brazilian continues to work on a move away from north London.
Roberto De Zerbi confirmed last month that Richarlison was one of three players to have asked for a transfer away from Tottenham.
Attempts to move him out of Spurs first fell through during the English transfer window when Richarlison opted against a switch to Everton, after Spurs had reached an agreement with the Toffees for Iliman Ndiaye.
Then came interest from Trabzonspor, who were keen on signing Richarlison during the Turkish window, which has since closed.
However, that move also fell through after reports claimed the Turkish outfit needed to move on a foreign player before making a move for Richarlison.
Tottenham and Richarlison face fresh twist as Vasco move hits loan rule setback
In the last 24 hours, interest in the Brazilian forward has again surfaced. It is understood that Brazilian side Vasco are keen on signing Richarlison, with the Tottenham forward already green‑lighting a move.
New Spurs signing Savio also took to social media to pretty much confirm these reports after he revealed he was trying to convince Richarlison to move to Atlético Mineiro instead of Vasco.
Richarlison is a fan of Vasco, and it is no surprise to see him pushing for a move to the Brazilian outfit. However, that move has faced a fresh setback, with reports stating that a loan move to Vasco would not be possible due to FIFA’s loan rules.
It was claimed that Tottenham had communicated to Richarlison that a loan move would not be sanctioned. According to FIFA’s rules, no more than six players can be loaned outside of a federation. Spurs currently have six players on loan outside of England.
Confusion over FIFA rules leaves door slightly open for Richarlison move
Journalist Alasdair Gold has now further explained the loan rules, with some confusion over whether Tottenham could have more than six if some were below the age of 21.
On FIFA’s own website, it is stated that “Players aged 21 and younger and club‑trained players will be exempt from these limitations.” However, elsewhere it says: “The loan of a professional will be exempt from the above limitations if: a) the loan occurs before the end of the season of the former club in which the professional turns 21; and b) the professional is a club-trained player with the former club.”
So, it appears that Tottenham are indeed stuck without an opportunity to loan Richarlison out, meaning a permanent sale is required.
The transfer window in Brazil does not close until 11 September, and one would expect that even if Tottenham were to loan Richarlison, they would want to include an obligation to buy.
With Richarlison not included in Roberto De Zerbi’s Premier League squad, it is clear that Tottenham have put their faith in Omar Marmoush and Dominic Solanke to lead the line, with Richarlison now fast running out of options for regular first‑team football.
