Fabrizio Romano has shared some interesting information about Lucas Bergvall after the midfielder signed a new contract with Tottenham.
A couple of days ago, Bergvall put pen to paper on a new Tottenham contract, even though the midfielder has started just one Premier League game for Roberto De Zerbi’s side this season.
However, the Tottenham boss has said that he expects the Swede to become a key player before the end of the season, speaking highly of his potential.
It was widely reported through the summer that the Spurs midfielder wanted to leave in search of regular game time, and one journalist has now revealed why the youngster changed his mind.

Following the contract extension, Alasdair Gold revealed that Bergvall is happy to be playing in his preferred centre midfield position, which is a key reason behind his decision to commit himself to the project.
Romano has now claimed that the former Djurgardens player did indeed want to leave in the summer, but the journalist also shared that the youngster is a fan of the way De Zerbi wants to play.
The Italian said on his YouTube channel: “Lucas Bergvall has signed a new contract at Tottenham Hotspur. That’s a very surprising one, probably. If you had asked me in June, I probably would not have predicted this. Why? Because Lucas Bergvall’s initial idea was to leave Tottenham in this summer transfer window, and not because he’s not happy at Tottenham.
“I’m also told that Lucas Bergvall is a big fan of how Roberto De Zerbi wants to play football, so the connection is very good with everyone. He just had a feeling that after signing Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, and with Tottenham having no European football, he was not going to play football, basically. So he wanted to go and play.”
Bergvall attracted interest from abroad and London rivals
It was reported during the summer window that Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest both had offers rejected for Bergvall, but Romano has now shared that they were not the only two teams interested.
The transfer market expert claimed that Tottenham also received an offer from abroad for the midfielder and confirmed that Chelsea also made calls on deadline day to enquire about his availability.
Romano added about Bergvall: “He had several possibilities. One was from Nottingham Forest, another was from a club abroad. There were also some calls from Chelsea on Deadline Day to understand the situation of the player, although they never sent a bid. So there was a lot of interest around Lucas Bergvall.
“But the decision made by Tottenham Hotspur, in a very clear way with the player and his camp during the summer transfer window, was: despite this desire from Lucas, stay with us, continue with us. We will give you a contract because we believe in you Tottenham didn’t want to lose the player. Now they have reached an agreement on a new contract, with an improved salary for Lucas Bergvall, who is going to be part of Tottenham’s future.”
