Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update on Inter Milan’s pursuit of Tottenham centre‑back Cristian Romero, as competition for his signature begins to gather momentum.

Cristian Romero’s time in north London looks increasingly likely to end this summer as the Argentine continues to be linked with a move away from Tottenham Hotspur.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi has strongly hinted that a departure could be on the cards for the Spurs skipper after revealing that he promised certain players he would help them secure transfers if they kept the Lilywhites in the Premier League.

Speaking about Romero and a possible move away from north London, De Zerbi said: “At the beginning of my time, in April, I had, I do not know, one million individual meetings! And [the players] told me what was their idea. I said: ‘Yes, help me to stay up, and then I help you to leave. If you do not help me to stay up, you stay underwater with me!’

“But Romero with me was unbelievable. Top. In his behaviour, his respect, he suffered when he did not play the last game. It is not true that he wanted to leave for Argentina to prepare for their World Cup. It is not true.”

Fabrizio Romano provides update on Inter pursuit of Tottenham’s Cristian Romero in £34m talks

Romero has since attracted interest from Inter Milan, who have been keen on securing the services of the centre-back this summer.

Negotiations have been ongoing between Romero’s camp and the Serie A champions’ officials, with the Argentine’s agent said to have touched down in Italy, while Inter’s sporting director has also travelled.

With talks progressing, Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has now shared an update on where things stand in Inter’s pursuit of the centre-back.

According to the journalist, the Italian side are expected to make a final decision soon on the transfer of Romero.

Reports have claimed that Inter and Spurs have been in talks over a potential £34 million deal, and Romano has confirmed that such an agreement would not be an issue.

The journalist further reports that Romero is demanding a wage packet similar to the one he currently earns at Spurs. The Argentine takes home £195,000 a week.

But while Inter are advancing in talks, more clubs are reported to also be keen on Romero.

Romano’s tweet reads: “Inter are expected to make final decision soon on Cuti Romero deal. No issues on agreement with Spurs on fee, Romero asks same salary he has at Tottenham. Inter to decide soon as more clubs are keen on the Argentinian; exits could be key.”

Inter’s Stones deal unlikely to affect race for Spurs defender

Inter Milan only just completed the signing of Manchester City centre-back John Stones on a free transfer. However, that move is not expected to affect the Nerazzurri’s pursuit of the Spurs centre-back this summer.

The race is on though, as the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are also keeping tabs on Romero.
