Despite Tottenham Hotspur’s flurry of transfer activity so far, several key jobs still remain before the window closes, and we have highlighted five crucial tasks Spurs must complete before the summer deadline.

It has been an eventful summer transfer window for Tottenham Hotspur thus far, with the Lilywhites busy not only securing new additions but also completing sales.

A staggering £237 million has been spent on player purchases, while Spurs have recouped £85.1 million from sales, leaving their net spend at £151.9 million.

Regardless, work remains for Tottenham this summer despite their six signings and four sales, and we have now highlighted five things Spurs still have to complete before the window slams shut in a few months from now.

Tottenham must sign a left winger

While most of the focus has been on strengthening defence and midfield, Tottenham still need to bolster their attack.

At present, the left wing stands out as an area that requires reinforcements, with Mathys Tel the only fit option in that role.

Wilson Odobert remains sidelined with an ACL injury, while Simons is also out with a similar issue. Spurs are clearly aware of the need for a left winger and continue to be linked with several names.

Cody Gakpo, Crysencio Summerville, Savinho, Junior Kroupi and Rafael Leao stand out as the main options for the north London club.

Heung-min Son departed last summer and Spurs have yet to fill the void on the left since his exit. This window feels like the perfect opportunity to finally address that.

Spurs must get good money for Cristian Romero

While securing new additions is always exciting, getting value from player sales is equally important in this era of FFP, where the books must be balanced.

So far this summer, Tottenham have done well in the market. Radu Dragusin was sold for £21.4 million, payable next summer following his Fiorentina loan.

Luka Vuskovic, who has yet to kick a ball in the Premier League, was sold for £50 million, while Alejo Veliz went for £7.7 million and Alfie Devine for £6 million.

Spurs also managed to include future clauses in the Vuskovic and Devine deals, which is always smart business. The sales are expected to continue, and Tottenham must remain consistent in how they value their players.

One name that could depart is Cristian Romero, whose time at Tottenham looks close to ending. With interest coming from Spain, if Spurs can secure upwards of £50-60 million for the Argentine, it would represent strong business for the Lilywhites.

Tottenham need a 20-goal-a-season striker

While the left wing is a pressing issue in north London, the striker position is equally problematic. Spurs have struggled to replace Harry Kane since his departure in 2023.

Replacing a player of Kane’s quality is far from easy, but Tottenham must attempt to strengthen that position. At present, both Richarlison and Dominic Solanke have failed to fill the void left by the club’s record goalscorer.

This transfer window offers Spurs a chance to finally put things right. A move for Dusan Vlahovic could be a step in the right direction, with the Italian now a free agent.

Vlahovic managed 10 goals last season from 23 games, scoring seven in Serie A after playing 970 minutes.

Spurs must sell players Roberto De Zerbi does not need

To make the window even more of a success, Spurs still need to manage a few sales. Last season, Roberto De Zerbi was blunt in his assessment, making it clear that only 12 players were good enough for him to build around.

That means there are several players he is looking to move on, and that has to be a priority this summer.

The likes of Pape Matar Sarr, Manor Solomon and Richarlison have attracted interest and should be moved on.

Lucas Bergvall could also be sold if he becomes surplus to requirements in a stacked midfield, although Spurs are not keen on letting the youngster go.

Tottenham must find good loan moves for youngsters

While building the squad, Tottenham must not forget to develop their youngsters who could well come good in the future. That involves securing loan moves for those with immense potential and who are not far from first-team football.

Spurs managed this last season, with several of their youngsters impressing elsewhere, including Alfie Devine, Will Lankshear and Mikey Moore. A similar path this season would be even better, as these players would be in a great position to help the squad in the future.

Moore is already attracting interest from Borussia Dortmund, while Lankshear is drawing attention from Sporting CP. Loan moves to these clubs with guaranteed regular football, combined with Spurs completing the other four tasks, would make this a summer window to remember.
