How much Man United are willing to pay Tottenham for Cristian Romero transfer

Manchester United have now entered the race for Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero amid his uncertain future.

With Tottenham Hotspur keen on two senior defensive signings this summer in Marcos Senesi and Jan Paul van Hecke, Spurs Web believes that Cristian Romero’s time in north London could well be coming to an end.

Romero has spent five seasons at Tottenham and has endured a mixed spell, producing moments of brilliance – most notably during the club’s Europa League triumph – but also having his fair share of controversial moments, often leaving fans divided.

Romero stated last year that he would be open to a move to La Liga, and since then, speculation regarding a transfer to Spain has been rife. That has also left many fans on edge with regard to whether he is fully COYS.

Spurs Web have reported on interest from Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Barcelona in Romero in recent months.

Manchester United enter race for Tottenham star Cristian Romero

According to Fichajes, it is not just La Liga sides that are keen on Romero, with Premier League club Manchester United now also in the race.

The report claims the Red Devils are currently the frontrunners for the Argentine’s signature and are willing to pay significant money to bring him to Old Trafford.

It is further claimed that United would be prepared to pay a fee in excess of £56m (€65m) as they look to build a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts.

Romero is said to be aware of the opportunities available and is looking to explore his options, while Tottenham are reportedly open to listening to offers for the defender, aware that a sale could help finance future signings and balance the squad ahead of next season.

Gaston Edul has also reinforced the idea that Man United are interested in signing Cristian Romero, but journalist Sam C has poured cold water on those reports.

Spurs have rarely sold star names to Premier League rivals

While the publication did not mention any interest from Spain, we believe that if Tottenham were to sell Romero to a Premier League rival, they would demand a significant fee.

Compared to other leagues, clubs in the English top flight are considerably wealthier, and Spurs would look to extract as much value as possible from any sale to Manchester United.

However, when comparing Tottenham’s transfer history with Premier League clubs, they have been more willing to do business with Manchester United than most of their domestic rivals.
