Former Celtic and Scotland boss Gordon Strachan has shared the details of his conversation with Tottenham target Andy Robertson regarding his next move.
The left-back’s contract at Liverpool runs out in June and some sources suggest that the experienced full-back has already verbally agreed to sign for Spurs.
However, Atletico Madrid are also ready to challenge Tottenham for Robertson this summer, while some sources have revealed that the Spurs target has also held talks with Celtic.
Just a couple of days ago, it emerged that the Lilywhites may also have to battle Juventus for the 32-year-old, and an experienced coach has now revealed what is going through the left-back’s mind ahead of the summer.

Tottenham target Andy Robertson wants a leadership role at his next club
Reliable sources, including Fabrizio Romano, have suggested that Robertson will prioritise a move to Spurs this summer despite the growing number of suitors.
Strachan has now revealed that he was unsuccessful in his efforts to convince the left-back to join Dundee, and revealed what sort of role the Liverpool star wants at his next club.
Strachan told Andy’s Bet Club: “Well, I made my pitch to Andy Robertson for Dundee because I met him and chatted with him last week. So the Dundee deal, I’m sorry for the Dundee fans, is not going to happen. But when I was speaking to him, I was trying to explain my feelings when I left Manchester United, where I felt I was losing my influence at the club.
“There’s no doubt about it, and I was losing my influence on the field as well. Then, when I went somewhere that I felt I was an influence, and I knew I was an influence from the first couple of weeks, it made me feel fantastic.
“People were listening to me, people wanted to see what I was doing, people were watching me train, people wanted to see how I was as a bloke, as a person. That responsibility kicked me on for another three, four, or five years.
“I think that’s the type of thing Andy wants now, a place where he knows he has to be an influence, and everybody is looking at him to say, ‘Right, you’ve been an example of how to be a top footballer.’ I think Andy would take that on because Andy has that.”
Gordon Strachan gives a ringing endorsement of Robertson’s character
According to TEAMtalk, Roberto De Zerbi has greenlighted the signing of Robertson this summer after Spurs failed with a move for the defender in January.
If Tottenham do win the race for the Scotland captain, Strachan believes Spurs will be getting a humble player who is keen to continue improving.
The 69-year-old added about Robertson: “Since he was a kid, Andy has had wonderful humility, which you need to get better and better all the time. Once you have no humility, you think you know everything, and then you’re not going to improve.
“Andy has that in abundance. So that was the kind of advice I would give Andy. It might be a good time for Andy because they’ll have to change a few things at Liverpool in the next couple of years with Salah going and Virgil van Dijk.”
