Tottenham Hotspur’s efforts to land Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton are progressing rapidly, and a deal may not be far away.

Spurs are now expected to launch a £60m offer for Van Hecke after their previous two bids of £40m and £50m were rejected by Brighton.

Tottenham expect their third and final bid for the Dutchman to be accepted by the Seagulls, who are under pressure to sell since the player has just a year left on his deal.

The 25-year-old is currently in the United States, preparing to represent the Netherlands at the World Cup, but the Lilywhites are seemingly making efforts to clinch a deal swiftly.

Jan Paul van Hecke is getting ‘closer and closer’ to Tottenham

The Athletic claimed a couple of days ago that Spurs hope to secure Van Hecke’s signature before the Netherlands kick off their World Cup campaign with a clash against Japan on Sunday.

Based on the latest update by journalist Joost Blaauwhof, the Lilywhites could be on course to get it done in time.

The Voetball International reporter revealed on social media that Van Hecke’s move to Spurs is now “getting closer and closer” and added that it could be done “possibly by Sunday.”

Brighton have also bid £30m for Tottenham’s Luka Vuskovic which, if accepted, would be subtracted from the Van Hecke price tag.

However, it is unclear whether Tottenham are willing to part with one of their brightest starlets for what is quite a modest fee.

Why Spurs’ deal for Van Hecke is unlikely to be hijacked

Having been burned with the Eberechi Eze saga last summer, some Tottenham fans may not want to get too excited until Van Hecke is seen holding up the Spurs shirt.

However, the chances of this deal being hijacked seem slim, as reports indicate that Van Hecke’s agent has told his other suitors that his client wants to join Tottenham.

The centre-back shares a great rapport with De Zerbi, and his keenness on completing the move should give supporters confidence that this will get done sooner rather than later.
