Tottenham Hotspur have a lot of work to do to land Cody Gakpo, with time running out in the transfer window.

We have heard over recent weeks that Roberto De Zerbi remains confident that Savinho and Cody Gakpo will be Spurs players by the end of the window.

Some reports have even suggested over the last few days that Spurs have already reached an agreement in principle on personal terms with Gakpo ahead of a potential switch to N17.

The Dutchman has allegedly made it clear to Liverpool that he wants to join the Lilywhites, but a new update suggests that Spurs fans should not be getting excited just yet.

Tottenham yet to begin negotiations with Liverpool over Cody Gakpo

The Athletic’s Seb Stafford-Bloor has now claimed that there is a long way to go before the 27-year-old becomes a Spurs player.

He says that Tottenham’s pursuit of Gakpo has ‘not yet developed’ despite the North London club expressing their interest to the player.

While De Zerbi’s men have been in contact with the forward’s representatives, they have not begun formal negotiations with Liverpool yet, with just over 12 days left in the transfer window.

The journalist adds that the Merseyside club maintain that Gakpo, who has four years left on his deal at Anfield, is not for sale.

Several things need to happen for Spurs to secure Gakpo

This update comes just a day after Football Insider reported that several things need to happen before Tottenham can sign the former PSV Eindhoven man.

The report claimed that Liverpool need to sign several attackers before listening to offers for Gakpo, and that so far, they have not given much encouragement to Spurs in their pursuit.

However, the one possible piece of good news for Tottenham is that several sources, including TEAMtalk, are reporting that Liverpool are pushing ahead with a massive offer for PSG pair Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye.

The outlet asserted that both players have already agreed personal terms in principle with the Reds ahead of a switch to Andoni Iraola’s side. Spurs will be hoping that their arrivals at Anfield could lead to Liverpool listening to offers for Gakpo.
