Tottenham’s pursuit of Cody Gakpo is a long way from being successful as we enter the final stretch of the transfer window.

Spurs Web has relayed several reports over recent days indicating that Gakpo has informed Liverpool of his desire to join Tottenham. Liverpool allegedly want more than £60m.

In fact, it has emerged that the Dutchman has reached an agreement in principle with Spurs over personal terms, with the two clubs now looking to agree on a fee.

Reports from the Netherlands have said that all parties are now convinced that they can agree on a deal to take Gakpo to North London, but a new update has now suggested that there is still a lot of work to do for the deal to be done.

Liverpool will only sell Cody Gakpo to Tottenham if they sign ‘several attackers’

Football Insider has claimed that despite the ongoing speculation, Andoni Iraola does not want to lose the Netherlands international this summer.

Even though Liverpool are now plotting to sign a first-choice left-winger before the window closes, that alone is not enough for them to sell Gakpo.

The Merseyside club are not planning to let the 27-year-old go to Spurs unless they sign ‘several new attackers’.

The website also spoke to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who insisted that so far, Liverpool have not given Tottenham any encouragement regarding a pursuit of Gakpo.

O’Rourke said about Spurs’ pursuit of the former PSV Eindhoven man: “They’ve not been getting a lot of encouragement from Liverpool that they’d be willing to sell. Spurs will be hoping that might change if Liverpool bring in their own attacking reinforcements. But as things stand right now, I don’t think Liverpool can afford to let Gakpo go, because they’re going to need him this season.

“Unless Liverpool bring in more players, I don’t think Andoni Iraola will be looking to leave his squad short by offloading somebody like Gakpo, so there are lots of hurdles for this one to overcome for Spurs to have any chance of landing Gakpo before the window closes.”

Liverpool are pursuing two PSG players

The potential good news for Spurs is that Liverpool are not plotting the signing of just one new winger, but two.

According to reports, the Reds are looking to raid PSG for both Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye, with talks continuing over the double deal.

If Iraola’s men do get both players through the door, one would imagine that Gakpo would not be too keen on staying at Anfield and being a squad player.
