Tottenham’s chances of landing Cody Gakpo have seemingly improved considerably over the last few days, as the Lilywhites step up their interest.
It was previously reported that Liverpool have not shown any interest in selling Gakpo, even though the forward has signalled a willingness to move to Tottenham.
In fact, earlier this week, The Athletic reported that Spurs have not yet even spoken to the Reds about the Dutchman, having only reached out to the player’s representatives.
That changed on Thursday, with reports emerging that the Lilywhites had formally expressed an interest in Gakpo, who has been identified as a key target for the club in the final weeks of the transfer window.

Voetbal International reporter Joost Blaauwhof has now revealed that confidence is growing among all parties that a deal to take the former PSV Eindhoven man to N17 is ‘very realistic’.
He added that the chances of the deal ending in success are ‘high’ as De Zerbi continues to push to land the Netherlands international.
Blaauwhof wrote on X: “Among all parties, the conviction is starting to prevail that the transfer of Cody Gakpo to Spurs is becoming very realistic. The chance of success is now quite high. But Liverpool still needs to agree. Manager Roberto De Zerbi hasn’t let go so far. It’s Gakpo all the way.”
Spurs would have to break the bank for Gakpo
Journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed last week that Liverpool would need to make multiple additions to their attack to put Gakpo up for sale.
The journalist also asserted that the Lilywhites would have to pay more than £70m to convince Andoni Iraola’s men to part ways with the 27-year-old.
However, the good news for Spurs is that the Merseyside club are stepping up efforts to land Bradley Barcola from PSG, which could potentially pave the way for Gakpo’s move to North London.
