Cody Gakpo could be forced into a shirt‑number change should he make the switch from Liverpool to Tottenham, with transfer speculation continuing to heat up.
Tottenham Hotspur‘s focus is set to turn to securing new forward additions after strengthening their midfield and defensive lines.
Roberto De Zerbi revealed that a transfer bomba could arrive before the summer window closes, while making clear that Spurs are in the market for attacking reinforcements.
The Italian also stated that two to three players could well be signed as Tottenham continue to strengthen their squad.
Shirt numbers available to Cody Gakpo at Tottenham
Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo has been on the radar of the Lilywhites, who are looking for a left‑wing option.
However, the 27-year-old is not expected to come cheap, with Andoni Iraola’s men expected to demand £72 million for the forward.
That would fall short of what Tottenham paid for their biggest recruits this summer, with Fernandes and Sandro Tonali costing £85 million and £100 million respectively.
It remains to be seen if a deal will be completed, but should Gakpo join, he could struggle to retain the shirt numbers he has worn in the past.
Throughout his career, Gakpo has used a variety of numbers including 18, 11, 14, 19, 20, 17 and 15.
Many of these shirt numbers came during his time in youth football at PSV. However, in the last few seasons at Anfield, Gakpo has maintained the number 18 shirt.
Which numbers Gakpo could realistically take at Spurs
Retaining most of his previous numbers could be difficult, as they are currently in use by players in north London.
At the moment, number 18 is being worn by Mateus Fernandes, who only just arrived in north London, while 11 is worn by Tel, 14 by Archie Gray, 19 by Dominic Solanke and 20 by Kudus.
However, numbers 15 and 17 could later become available, as they are currently used by Lucas Bergvall and Cristian Romero.
Gakpo wore 15 and 17 in the 2016/17 season while at PSV with the Under-19 side in their UEFA competition.
With Bergvall and Romero linked with moves away from Spurs, if Gakpo signs, those could be among the vacant numbers available to him.
Other available Tottenham numbers include 2, 12, 18, 22, 25, 26, 27, 32, 34, 35 and 36.
