Tottenham Hotspur fans will be delighted to hear the latest on Pedro Porro’s future as Manchester City accelerate efforts to land the right-back.

Manchester City have been credited with an interest in Porro, who came through their academy ranks before making a name for himself in Sporting Lisbon.

Many Spurs fans are concerned about the prospect of losing the 26-year-old, who has been one of the very few senior Tottenham players to have not suffered a major injury over the last two seasons.

Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe has confirmed that Man City’s interest in Porro is concrete, but the Lilywhites are now set to make a big statement to the Manchester club regarding the right-back.

Pedro Porro is close to signing a new contract at Tottenham

It has been widely reported over recent days that Spurs have no intention of selling Porro, who De Zerbi views as a key part of his plans.

AS have now revealed that Tottenham are set to give a ‘resounding and swift response’ to City’s advances towards the 26-year-old.

The Lilywhites have accelerated efforts to tie down Porro to a new contract and are now ‘close’ to reaching an agreement with the Spain international.

De Zerbi has ‘repeatedly emphasised’ his desire to keep the defender, with the Tottenham boss seeing the Spaniard as a leader around whom he wants to build the project.

In fact, it is alleged that Spurs are willing to make Porro one of the highest-paid players in the squad.

This information has also now been backed up by The Athletic who say that ‘Pedro Porro is close to agreeing a long-term Tottenham contract extension.’

Why Spurs cannot afford to lose Porro this summer

While Tottenham are undertaking a major rebuild this summer, we have seen time and again that too many changes can cause major disruptions at clubs.

With Tottenham already likely to lose a world-class talent and a leader in Cristian Romero, losing Porro in the same window would come as a bitter blow.

One would expect the Spurs hierarchy to prioritise tying down the Spain international as well as Micky van de Ven to new contracts before the start of the next season.
