Tottenham Hotspur have now turned their attention to a young defender who has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in Ligue 1.

Spurs have bolstered their backline through the additions of Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson, with the pair bringing plenty of Premier League experience and leadership to the club.

The Lilywhites are working to add more reinforcements to their defence, with Tottenham reportedly optimistic of clinching a deal for Jan Paul van Hecke.

However, that may not be the end of the defensive additions for Roberto De Zerbi’s men this summer, with the club now allegedly turning their attention to a 21-year-old centre-back.

Tottenham battling Crystal Palace for Lens starlet Ismaelo Ganiou

Ismaelo Ganiou only swapped Italian second-tier side Padova for Lens last summer, and the 21-year-old has made a massive impact in his debut season in French football.

The centre-back became an undisputed starter in the final few months of the campaign, and according to a report from Flashscore, the youngster’s impressive performances have brought him to the notice of Tottenham.

Spurs are now in the picture to prise Ganiou away from Lens, but they are not the only Premier League club eyeing the youngster.

London rivals Crystal Palace have also expressed an interest in the Burkina Faso international, who posted some very impressive numbers last season, including 5.1 recoveries and winning 5.3 per game.

Lens will not sell Ganiou on the cheap

The interest in the centre-back is not restricted to English clubs, with Borussia Dortmund also plotting a move for the Lens starlet.

It is pointed out that the Bundesliga club have made it a habit of recruiting young defenders from Ligue 1 over recent years, and they could continue the trend with Ganiou.

Lens consider the 21-year-old to be one of the most promising players in their squad and are expected to demand €35m (£30m) for his services.
