Tottenham may be searching for experience this summer, but the club have also just confirmed fresh contract news involving one of their young defensive prospects.

In recent weeks, much of the focus around Tottenham Hotspur has centred on potential incomings as the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of next season.

Andy Robertson has already joined on a pre-contract agreement as Spurs’ first signing of the summer transfer window.

Tottenham have also continued working on further arrivals, with Marcos Senesi expected to come in next after agreeing a four-year deal.

Jan Paul van Hecke also remains on Spurs’ radar as the club continues negotiations with Brighton. However, attention is not solely on new signings, with Tottenham also working to retain several members of the squad.

Tottenham confirm new contract for Maeson King

Spurs Web revealed earlier this week that work is being done to extend the contract of veteran Ben Davies, with an announcement from the club potentially expected soon.

Tottenham have now officially confirmed that young centre-back Maeson King has signed a new contract with the club.

Maeson joined Spurs as a 10-year-old and signed his first professional contract midway through the 2023-24 campaign.

The defender played a key role towards the end of the 2023-24 season as Tottenham’s Under-21 side lifted the Premier League 2 title, before becoming a regular at that level during the 2024-25 campaign.

That season also saw him named in the first-team squad on two occasions. He has had his fair share of injuries and had to battle back from a long-term injury, before going on to make eight further Premier League 2 appearances during the 2025-26 season.

Ben Davies praised by Spurs youngster Maeson King

Speaking to the club’s official media channels after signing his new deal, King spoke about his journey through the academy and admitted he was delighted to continue his development at Tottenham.

“It’s an amazing feeling, you always want to be here and keep pushing and when you look around it’s one of the best places to be so, yeah it’s a really good feeling,” King said in his interview with the club.

“I signed here when I was nine from Sunday league and I’ve just progressed through the ranks, every age group and it’s actually been a smooth ride so far.

“It’s good being adaptable because it helps you to be able to cover many positions. Especially being left-footed it helps as well because there’s not many left-footed defenders about.”

King also explained how Ben Davies helped him settle into the senior environment during his time around the first team.

“Ben Davies especially, being a left-back and him being a senior player, he brought me in quite well,” he added.

“He just brings you into the environment and tells you to just be yourself and train as if you’re over with the under-21s so you don’t have any stress or worries about who you’re training with. It’s a great experience and you learn so much from it just being in and around it even if it’s just training.”

The youngster also opened up on his recovery from injury and how remaining close to the first-team environment helped him stay focused during rehabilitation.

“Obviously I had a long-term injury and just being in and around it every day keeps your mind focused on what you want to get back to instead of being completely disconnected from it,” he said.

“But when you’re in and around it you want to get back to it as quick as possible so it definitely helps.”
