Tottenham Hotspur have received some good news in their quest to cash in on Guglielmo Vicario ahead of the new season.

Vicario is one of 23 Tottenham players who have been spotted at Hotspur Way in the first few days of pre-season, which many may not have expected at the start of the summer.

A departure from N17 has always seemed certain for the Spurs goalkeeper, who has been heavily linked with a move to Juventus ahead of the new season.

It is clear from Tottenham’s decision to hand Antonin Kinsky a long-term deal and sign Martin Dubravka as a backup that the former Empoli man is not part of their plans, and the Lilywhites have just received a boost in their efforts to move him on.

Juventus may have to turn to Tottenham and Guglielmo Vicario

The Bianconeri have also assessed moves for various Vicario alternatives, with Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez being one of the other names at the top of their wishlist.

However, Juve’s hopes of signing the Argentine have now collapsed as Villa’s director Damian Vidagany has ruled out selling the goalkeeper this summer.

Vidagany said (via Fabrizio Romano): “Martinez will stay with us. We have no intention of letting him leave this summer. The team needs his dedication and extensive experience. He is a very important element in our project for next season.”

One factor is holding up Vicario’s move to Juventus

Earlier this summer, some sources claimed that the Lilywhites are demanding £20m for the Italy international, who they signed for £17m three years ago.

It was reported by TuttoJuve a few days ago that Tottenham are now willing to accept around €15m to €20m (£12.7m-£17m) for Vicario.

However, the same update revealed that even that asking price is considered ‘too high’ by the Old Lady, who need to sell some players to fund a move for the Spurs goalkeeper.
