Middlesbrough have made a breakthrough in talks with Tottenham over a deal for Will Lankshear, as the Championship side look to complete an eight‑figure transfer.
Tottenham Hotspur have so far completed five sales this summer transfer window and have received a whopping £93.1 million from outgoings.
This comes after the departure of several youngsters, with Alejo Veliz, Radu Dragusin, Alfie Devine, Luka Vuskovic and Tynan Thompson all leaving the club.
Still, more and more young players continue to attract interest, with Will Lankshear and Lucas Bergvall just to name a few.
Middlesbrough agree deal for Tottenham’s Will Lankshear
It was revealed earlier this week that Middlesbrough were advancing in their pursuit of Lankshear, with the club and the player reported to be in advanced talks.
This came after Spurs had rejected offers in the eight‑figure range for the 21-year-old, which included permanent and loan proposals from Sporting CP, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton.
However, Boro now seem to have managed a breakthrough in their negotiations with Lankshear.
That is according to journalist Lyall Thomas, who has revealed that Middlesbrough have agreed a deal with Tottenham to sign Will Lankshear, with the striker due in the northeast for a medical today.
Alasdair Gold provides fresh details on Lankshear move
Journalist Alasdair Gold also provided further details on the potential switch for Lankshear. According to the journalist, Spurs are said to have agreed a fee with Boro worth £14 million over the coming season and potentially £20 million in total with add-ons.
Gold does, however, add that Lankshear is still to agree personal terms, with other clubs remaining interested, although Boro are in the driving seat.
The striker, though, will not leave unless he is certain of receiving the game time needed for his development.
Should Lankshear complete a move to the Championship side, then Tottenham’s sales would rise to six for the summer transfer window.
That would equal the number of new arrivals for Spurs this summer. The sale of Lankshear could also take money received from departures up and above £100 million. In fact, it could reach £113.1 million if he agrees to the Boro move and if all add-ons are reached.
Tottenham fans, however, are not entirely convinced about the sale of Lankshear this summer, with many believing it is a big mistake.
