Tottenham eye Antonio Vergara transfer as Roberto De Zerbi pushes for £26m winger

Tottenham Hotspur now have eyes on Antonio Vergara as they look to bolster their wide areas after last season’s injury crisis.

Tottenham Hotspur are yet to complete the signing of Manchester City’s Savinho, but those links do hint at the need for extra bodies out wide.

At the moment, Spurs are short of depth in the wide positions with injuries severely hampering their options.

Dejan Kulusevski continues to navigate the injury that has kept him out for a year, while Mohammed Kudus is making good progress after undergoing surgery of his own.

Wilson Odobert is set to miss most of the opening months of next season, and those injuries leave Tottenham with Mathys Tel and possibly Kudus and Kulusevski as wide options.

That is far from enough depth, making it important for Spurs to strengthen that position.

Tottenham target Antonio Vergara as Roberto De Zerbi interest emerges

A report from Il Mattino now claims that Tottenham have Napoli wide man Antonio Vergara on their radar this summer transfer window.

The winger’s future is said to be up in the air following Antonio Conte’s departure from Naples at the end of last season.

It is believed this summer could be the right time for Vergara to leave, although Spurs would have to fend off interest from elsewhere.

Como are also interested in signing Vergara, and he is viewed as a replacement for Nico Paz, who could return to Real Madrid after his loan spell.

As for Spurs, it is explained that manager Roberto De Zerbi is a big fan of the winger and would like him at Tottenham.

Spurs could land Antonio Vergara for £26m

Napoli’s stance has reportedly been made clear, with the Italian side viewing the wide man as a player they could offload this summer.

It is understood that a fee of around £26m (€30m) would be enough for them to sell Vergara. However, the situation remains far from certain as the final decision could come down to Max Allegri, who is yet to be appointed as manager.

In terms of output, the 23-year-old is not one who immediately turns heads statistically, although he did manage one goal and two assists in 12 Serie A appearances last season.
