Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of landing Marcus Rashford have just sustained a major blow following the latest update from Spain about the forward’s future.
It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that Spurs are looking to take advantage of Barcelona’s hesitation to secure Rashford ahead of the new season.
The Lilywhites’ efforts to do so were boosted a couple of days ago when it emerged that Barca and Man United are not see eye to eye on the valuation of the forward, thus opening up an opportunity for Spurs and his other suitors.
However, the latest updates from Spain suggest that the Lilywhites may be fighting a losing battle for Rashford.

Man United prepared to negotiate with Barcelona for Tottenham target Marcus Rashford
Sport claim that Man United were initially demanding that Barca activate their €30m (£26m) purchase option for Rashford, but the Red Devils have now reconsidered their stance.
United have now taken a more pragmatic stance and are willing to negotiate a more advantageous solution for the Catalan club.
This is because Michael Carrick’s men have realised that Rashford is prioritising a return to Camp Nou and is ‘completely closed off to all other proposals’.
However, interestingly, the report adds that the England forward is no longer considered a priority by Barca, who are making efforts to carefully manage their wage bill.
Hansi Flick’s men are now focused on signing a centre-forward, but they have not ruled out the return of Rashford to the club.
Why Spurs are unlikely to win the race for Rashford
Even if Barca and United are not able to reach an agreement for the 28-year-old, the chances of Tottenham Hotspur landing the Man United academy graduate appear to be slim.
In fact, it was claimed by The Mirror a couple of days ago that Rashford is not interested in a move to Spurs or Newcastle this summer.
The same update claimed that those two clubs have been joined in the race for the forward by Arsenal and Chelsea, while Aston Villa have also been credited with an interest in Rashford.
With no European football next season, De Zerbi’s side may struggle to convince the England man to pick them over his other suitors.
