Tottenham Hotspur are expected to face stiff competition in their pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White this summer, as they look to finally complete a deal for the midfielder after last year’s failed attempt.

Tottenham Hotspur will surely feel their pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White last summer was the right choice, given the stellar campaign the attacking midfielder went on to produce.

Gibbs-White ended last season with 25 goal contributions in 53 games across all competitions. In the Premier League, it was 15 goals and four assists from 37 appearances, a run that proved pivotal for Nottingham Forest, who were on the brink of relegation.

In comparison, Spurs’ alternative choice last year, Xavi Simons, managed just two goals and five assists from 28 appearances.

Since the end of the season, and with the transfer window about to open, Spurs Web has reported that Tottenham have rekindled their interest in Gibbs-White, which is not entirely surprising.

Tottenham face Morgan Gibbs-White transfer competition

A fresh report from Sports Boom has now revealed that while Spurs are keen on the 26-year-old, they are set to face stiff competition if they are to secure his signature this summer.

Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are all said to have entered the race to sign the Englishman.

Tottenham, from experience, will know that doing business with Nottingham Forest is not easy, given what unfolded last summer.

Spurs were said to have activated a release clause, but amid talk of legal action, Forest managed to extend Gibbs-White’s contract.

The attacking midfielder is now contracted until 2028, which puts Forest in a strong negotiating position.

However, the publication also notes that the situation leaves Forest in a difficult spot, as they risk Gibbs-White’s value dropping with each passing year, and that could force a sale this summer.

But it is explained that despite the growing interest, no bid has been placed for the Englishman just yet.

Spurs could still benefit from Morgan Gibbs-White versatility

The bigger question, though, is whether Spurs even need Gibbs-White. As things stand, James Maddison has returned from injury, while Simons remains sidelined and is expected back next year.

Mohammed Kudus is also making good progress and should be available next season, while Wilson Odobert is expected to return before 2027.

Dejan Kulusevski is another player currently out injured and working towards rehabilitation. That means Spurs could begin the season relying heavily on Maddison and Kudus as players continue their recoveries, potentially alongside Kulusevski.

That in itself leaves Spurs short in attack. Gibbs-White’s versatility could therefore prove valuable, especially given he is capable of operating off the left – a position Tottenham still needs to strengthen.
