The Guardian have revealed their Team of the Season for this year’s Champions League, and very surprisingly, one Tottenham star makes the cut.

Spurs fans are keen to forget the 2025-26 as soon as possible, with the campaign having some major lows for the club.

However, it is easy to forget that despite all their domestic struggles, Tottenham performed admirably in the Champions League. The Lilywhites finished fourth in the league phase, securing 17 points from their eight matches.

They also beat Atletico Madrid at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the round of 16, and the tie may have turned out very different if not for the disastrous first 20 minutes of the first leg at the Metropolitano Stadium.

Tottenham’s Pedro Porro makes Champions League Team of the Year

The Guardian have now announced their Champions League Team of the Year, and while the team understandably includes big names such as Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

However, there are some very interesting inclusions in the eleven, including the surprising one of Tottenham’s Pedro Porro.

The publication writes about the Spurs right-back: “Yes, a Spurs player made the cut. Remember Thomas Frank? A decent record in Europe served as a fig leaf for the Dane’s unpopular regime.

“Spurs managed to finish fourth in the group stage, and Porro’s skills as an overlapping full-back were to the fore, such that he has recently been linked with a return to Manchester City, where he spent three years as part of the club’s loan army.”

That means The Guardian rated Porro above the likes of Arsenal’s Timber and PSG’s Hakimi!

Porro has addressed his future amid Man City interest

Tottenham insiders have confirmed that Man City’s interest in Porro is genuine, which is not surprising, given how well the 26-year-old has done in a struggling Spurs side.

While some Spurs fans seem to think that the club should accept a big offer for the right-back, it would undoubtedly come as a blow for Roberto De Zerbi to lose a player whom he has identified as a key cog in his side.

Porro has refused to discuss the speculation over his future, making it clear that he is contracted at Tottenham, but significantly, he did not rule out an exit.
