Lucas Bergvall has done a complete 180 on his Tottenham Hotspur future in a space of just a few weeks.
Out of nowhere, it was announced last week that Bergvall had signed a new contract at Spurs, which came as a shock to many.
Not only had the midfielder reportedly asked to leave Tottenham in search of regular game time just a few weeks ago, but he had also started just one of the club’s three league games so far.
It has now been revealed that a turnaround in the 20-year-old’s stance was due to an interesting alignment between the player and the club.
Lucas Bergvall believes he can develop in his preferred role at Tottenham
Alasdair Gold has now revealed that the Sweden international had a change of heart as he now feels he can develop in his preferred midfield role at Tottenham.
The journalist explained that Bergvall was unhappy at not getting an opportunity to play in central midfield last season, and there have been plenty of positive conversations between him and the club regarding the path forward.
Gold wrote on X: “New deal for Lucas Bergvall. Great news. Key was the young Swede feeling he could develop in the role he wants, which he’d been unhappy about last season. Spurs were clear that they didn’t want to lose him and rejected big offers this summer.
“Understand there’s been plenty of positive conversations around his pathway and future at Tottenham and this new contract reflects the commitment from both Bergvall and the club towards that.”
Bergvall believes he is at the right place to continue developing
On signing the new deal, the midfielder insisted that it is an exciting time at Spurs and expressed his desire to be part of what is being built at N17.
Bergvall also said that he is at the right place to continue developing as a player and added that he is improving in every training session.
