    SWAGGER!

Looks like the missing Spurs swagger turned up at Goodison Park. Those thieving Scousers must have nicked it during the summer!

    2017 Summer Transfers - Confirmed

Just posted something similar above. I'm happy. We're stronger now than before - on paper - with more options in the squad and on the bench. Overall we look very athletic and powerful, perhaps still lacking that magic creative touch in the middle in addition to Eriksen if he's tired or not quite at his best. Maybe Winks or Lamela could be the key there.

    2017 Summer Transfers - Confirmed

Good business there. We have a formidable squad now - we've added power & experience with some great options for the future too. Potential match day 16 (in a few weeks time), based on a back 5.. GK: Lloris RB: Aurier CB: Sanchez CB: Alderweirald CB: Vertonghen LB: Rose MF: Eriksen MF: Wanyama MF: Dembele FW: Alli FW: Kane Subs - hard to pick 5, a strong bench. Choose from: Llorente, Son, Dier, Winks, Davis, Trippier, Walker-Peters, Vorm I've forgotten some players I know, so many options now depending on the competition and the opposition. COYS!

    SWAGGER!

Royce - I'm not having you getting all pessimistic on us! You are one of our most upbeat contributors! That glass is half full sir - sort it out ha ha. A bit of a stodgy start, but I think we'll be fine... We've been competitive in the three matches, dominating possession, creating many half/decent chances and we've been characteristically tight at the back. But for some annoying individual/collective errors we could have more points. We had several games like this last season too. Better to be slow starters than slow finishers! Wanyama doesn't look fit, Trippier looks naïve in a back 4, Sissoko is still a very square peg in a round hole and losing (or choosing to sell) Walker may have affected the balance of the team more than we thought it would. Wembley simply isn't as intimidating for the oppo as WHL either, as everyone will raise their game for an enjoyable trip to the national stadium. The other factor is staleness in the squad. Levy's 11th hour transfer dealings are financially clever in that they (often) maximise the selling price of our players when others are desperate, but it's annoying to get new signings 3 weeks into the season rather than 3 weeks (or more!) before. It gives us no time for squad preseason and there's no fresh competition for places for the early games. Now to the positives... Rose back soon (hopefully!) is a massive lift, Lamela on the mend (potentially!) brings more strength on the bench, Sanchez in the starting 11 (surely!) so we can go to a back 5 (which frees/supports Dier & Wanyama). We might have a few more to come in, also a couple to leave, which will improve the attitude, motivation and morale in the camp. So overall - we'll be fine! :-) COYS

    2017 Summer Transfers - Confirmed

Interesting to hear your story James. I got into hockey at school in the 1980s, primarily because I was much better at it than football and rugby. It turns out I'm 'better at sports when the ball gets smaller' (except golf - that's too small!) Played on several grass and shale pitches over the years - but that's mostly now reserved for tour matches, when drunk! It's a much better game now and I'm just about holding my own at a good level in Yorkshire, despite turning 40 this coming season. I agree that football could learn a little bit from hockey, mainly in terms of our progressive introduction of new rules that enhance the sport for players AND spectators. I think the use of rolling subs and a sin bin (green card offense) could easily be introduced at all levels of football, and would cut out loads of crap like diving, whinging, abusing officials and time wasting. This is why I often cringe when I watch modern footballers (Spurs players included unfortunately) as it's all a bit embarrassing and would be easy to solve over a few seasons if they gave the Ref more powers. Anyway - we're well off topic now!

Jamesinashby - who do you play hockey for? I've played for 15 years now at Leeds Hockey Club, Good to meet another hockey playing Spurs fan on this forum, assuming you didn't mean ice hockey! Back on topic... I agree with Cromulentmart. The new season has started and we look exactly the same as last season. This is not necessarily a problem as I just don't see anyone rolling us over in the league. We'll compete with (and can possibly beat) all the stronger teams and we should have too much for everyone else if the attitude and focus is right. We can win the league - although there are other strong clubs who we'll push all the way. Having Winks, Rose (soon?) and (eventually?) Lamela back in the match day squad will be like three new signings. Janssen scoring early on as a support striker for Kane would really be a huge boost too. Sanchez should be good to bolster the defence and allow us to go three at the back, with Dier then moving into midfield. So in my opinion we just need one signing, a creative attacking midfielder. In past seasons I liked Barkley who could have been this player for us, but none of my Everton friends really rate him. Maybe Mahrez, he has that flair we sometimes miss to unlock teams that defend in numbers.

By all means express such views privately but keep your mouth shut in public.

Class showed in the end. Great strike and much better second half generally.

Benteke is winning everything! None of our players are doing well to be honest. Need a big effort to get the points tonight.

PL: Crystal Palace v TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Strange Lacklustre display in first half, although Palace playing ok to give them some credit. We look a bit shaky at the back for once with no ideas up front. More to come from us second half. COYS! Two other observations: - Zaha looks great and would be a welcome addition to our squad over the summer if Palace would sell. Looks dangerous and would surely develop further under Poch and our coaches. - i still think it's a shame we sold Townsend, better than many (not all) of our other attacking options on the bench. However, he's probably too good to not start regularly in the Prem.

    FAC: Chelsea v TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

FFS. I fucking hate Chelsea. Fair enough on the Matic thunderbolt and the Hazard strike was good, although poor closing down after the corner clearance. But the first two goals.., terrible errors of the kind we've hardly made all season. Such rotten luck for mistakes to be made today. Still - heads up. Let's catch these fuckers in the league.

Watching on TV. We've looked in full control but given away two terrible goals. They don't look like scoring unless we make more blunders!

Yeah I just spotted that. Sorry was just so excited about our performance and the prospect of beating Chelsea!

Agreed. Then we could all chant "the referee's a wanker" and it would certainly be true.

    TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR v Bournemouth

No reason we can't beat Chelsea at Wembley, having a certain ref should not be an excuse. If Moussa/Dier/Victor can keep Hazard quiet then that's Chelsea's main threat dealt with. Our midfield and forwards are too fit, too dynamic and too energetic for their defence. We are the best team in this league right now and it's time to show it! Spurs marching on to the final and a crack at the double! Wowsers. COYS

    TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR v Bournemouth

Great performance all round. Could have been more really, but it's hard to complain when we are having such a fabulous season. Very happy for Janssen - about time! I do hope those Pochettino naysayers on these forums come out and admit they were wrong. This is the best coached and best motivated Spurs side I've seen in my lifetime. Off topic - but there are some absolute twats who use the BBC sport forums. Must be either arrogant Chelsea fans, bitter Mancs or desperate Goonies! COYS

EL: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR v KAA Gent

Why oh why are we so shit in Europe? Honestly why is it? I'm so pissed off its unbelievable. We are embarrassing at this level. Just an utter joke. This same group of players are competitive in almost every league and cup match in England. We take apart teams much better than Genk. Teams who are regularly in the Champions League. I think we will probably get to the CL again next season and our overall progress is good - but something is totally wrong in Europe.

EL: KAA Gent v TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR

Listening to match on BBC London radio. Don't mind our line-up but aren't we better as a back 5? Why not put Davies in as wing back on the left with Toby, Wimmer and Dier in the back 3. The 5 at the back with Wanyama sitting in front just seems to suit is better now.

    PL: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR v Chelsea

Still absolutely buzzing. What a performance and a result. Lot of valid views about whether certain players performed to their best, but let's not forget it's about the team as a whole and as a complete unit I think we were better than Chelsea in every respect.
