Tottenham not planning right-back signing as Roberto De Zerbi backs Archie Gray

According to reports, Spurs still want to sign a winger and a striker despite having just completed a deal for Manchester City winger Savinho.

There have also been murmurs that another defensive addition could be on the cards following the departure of Djed Spence to Inter Milan this summer.

De Zerbi has now addressed those rumours, making it clear that Tottenham will not be signing another right-back, and that the club will look to rely on Archie Gray in that position.

When asked if Tottenham are in the market for a right-back, he told football.london: “In this moment no, we have Archie Gray, he prefers playing in the midfield position, but he can play very well also as a right-back. I think we are good. I don’t want 25, 26 players, I want 21, 22, that’s enough.”

Gray’s rise continues as De Zerbi places trust in young star

Gray has certainly earned De Zerbi’s trust this summer. The youngster was a big-part player in pre-season, featuring both in midfield and at full-back.

In each of those appearances, he put in top displays, with one of the standouts coming in the friendly encounter against Chelsea, where he played at full-back and remained defensively solid despite Spurs going down to ten men.

In fact, Gray is one of our biggest winners from this summer’s pre-season camp. Gray’s inclusion in De Zerbi’s five-man leadership group is more proof of how highly the Italian rates the youngster.
