Tottenham Hotspur are attempting to complete an audacious deal for Cody Gakpo, but they are being met with some resistance.

It first emerged a couple of weeks ago that Spurs expressed an interest in the Liverpool winger, who fell short of his own high standards last season as the Reds had to settle for a fifth-place finish.

It has subsequently emerged that Gakpo’s representatives were exploring options for a summer move away from Anfield as the 27-year-old is concerned about falling down Andoni Iraola’s pecking order next season.

The Lilywhites are allegedly ready to make a serious effort to bring the Dutchman to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as they step up their summer rebuild.

Liverpool are not opening the door for Tottenham to poach Cody Gakpo

Over recent days, some outlets have suggested that Spurs are preparing a club-record £73.5m offer for the Netherlands international in what would be a big statement of ambition from the North Londoners.

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Tottenham do hold an interest in Gakpo, but he explained that so far, Liverpool have not opened the door for the former PSV Eindhoven to leave Merseyside.

The journalist said on his World Cup Show on X: “For sure there is interest from Tottenham, but Liverpool aren’t opening the door. Let’s keep an eye on this (Gakpo) one.”

Spurs continuing talks over deal for another Premier League winger

Gakpo is not the only big-name Premier League winger on Tottenham’s radar, with Spurs remaining interested in signing Savinho from Man City.

Some sources claim that Tottenham are confident of striking a £60m deal for Savinho, who is thought to be keen on making the move to N17 in search of regular game time.

Roberto De Zerbi is thought to be pushing for the signing of the Brazilian, as conversations continue between Man City and Tottenham over the 22-year-old.
