Tottenham’s latest acquisition, Savio, has now opened up about his ambitions in a Spurs shirt following his £85 million move from Manchester City.
Tottenham Hotspur finally got Savio through the door on Tuesday, bringing an end to a year-long transfer saga.
The Brazil international completed his £85m move from Manchester City six days before the transfer window slams shut.
Savio is now Spurs’ new number 17 for the 26-27 season after becoming the seventh signing of the summer, with his move taking Tottenham’s total spend for the transfer window to £322m.
Savio reveals why he chose Tottenham after £85m move
Following his big-money move, Savio has now completed his first Tottenham interview, revealing why he chose to make the switch from Manchester to north London.
Speaking to the club’s official channels, the 22-year-old winger made it clear that he is happy to have joined Tottenham. He also revealed what head coach Roberto De Zerbi told him to get him to sign for Spurs.
He said: “It took a while, but I’m here. Yeah, I’m very happy. I think everyone in my family knows that when Tottenham looked for me, I always wanted to be here. But now I’m here, I’m very happy, my family is happy, which is what matters. And I just have to thank God for this wonderful opportunity.
“Well, Tottenham has everything. It has one of the best managers in the world, it has the best training ground in the world, it has the best stadium in the world. Whenever I came to play against Tottenham here, I always talked to my representative about the club. And when he said that the club was interested in me, I was very happy. And as I said, I always wanted to be here now.
Savio also spoke about the conversation he had with De Zerbi before signing for Tottenham: “Ah, normal conversation. He said he wanted to help me reach the next, the highest level. Yeah, so i think when the coach calls and tells you that, you have to come. When he called me I was like, “Wow, I really have to go there,” because it’s not just any coach who does that.”

Former teammate Xavi Simons was one of those pushing for Savio to join Tottenham this summer.
However, the Dutchman was not the only one keen on the 22-year-old signing for Spurs, with fans also urging the Brazil international to make the switch.
Savio has now revealed the impact fans had on his decision and what his ambitions are as a Tottenham player.
He continued: “I am a very happy guy on the pitch – joyful. Yes, you can also see that I’m Brazilian, so it’s that street football, but with responsibility, with desire. Yes, I hope to make the fans very happy. I received many messages, I want to thank you.
“Whenever Tottenham’s interest arose, there were many messages for me to come here, so I was quite happy, pleased. I showed my family that I was receiving a lot of messages. And that’s it.
“About my football, I hope to give joy, a lot of joy to the fans. And not only to score, but also want to play well, I want to make the fans go to the stadium to watch Tottenham, to watch me, to watch all my teammates.
“I want to reach the top. It’s with this structure here of the club: in training, stadium, and with one of the best coaches in the world, i think we can reach the top. With my teammates too, we can compete for the Premier League, reach the Champions League and so on, with a lot of humility.
“As a player, I always, always have the dream of playing in a world cup. And if I play in a world cup, I think I will be fine here at Tottenham.
“I have to be good here. And the best in the world, individual awards, but first it’s fighting for the Premier League and reach the Champions League.”
Tottenham fans will now be hoping to see Savio take to the pitch soon, with the Lilywhites set to take on Charlton Athletic on Wednesday night.
