The race for Lucas Bergvall may be set to heat up over the coming weeks after Tottenham rejected two offers for the midfielder.

Nottingham Forest made the first move by offering £38m for Bergvall, which was immediately sent back by Tottenham.

It emerged a couple of days ago that the Magpies offered £46m for the Spurs midfielder, but that offer too was rejected by the Lilywhites.

Some sources have suggested that Newcastle’s interest in Bergvall is set to cool, with Eddie Howe’s side unwilling to meet Tottenham’s asking price, but this has now been contradicted by another journalist.

Newcastle set to return with second offer for Tottenham’s Lucas Bergvall

Journalist Nicolo Schira has now revealed that Newcastle continue to be the front-runners to land the Sweden international.

He suggested that the club are now preparing a second offer worth £51m to prise Bergvall away from the North London club.

Schira wrote on X: “Newcastle is leading the race to sign Tottenham’s midfielder Lucas Bergvall. NUFC are ready to offer €60m (£51m) to convince THFC to give the green light to the sale.”

Several more clubs interested in Bergvall

Some reports have said over recent days that Forest are also considering returning with an improved offer for the Tottenham man.

According to an update from TEAMtalk, Bergvall also features prominently in Unai Emery’s summer wishlist at Aston Villa.

Additionally, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Napoli and Inter Milan are all keeping an eye on the Spurs man, who is keen to exit N17 in search of a new challenge.
