Pedro Porro has reflected on his decision to pen a new long-term contract with Tottenham Hotspur after the club came close to relegation from the Premier League.

Two weeks ago, Spurs confirmed that Porro had signed a long-term deal, thus putting an end to the speculation linking the right-back with a move away from North London this summer.

According to reports, Tottenham have made the Spaniard one of the highest-paid players in their squad to demonstrate his importance to the club.

Roberto De Zerbi has confessed that he loves Porro’s character and admitted he is excited to continue working with the 26-year-old.

Pedro Porro never paid attention to speculation over his Tottenham future

Some sources claimed earlier this summer that Tottenham were expecting offers from some of the biggest clubs in Europe for Porro.

With a summer clearout expected from Spurs by many after two back-to-back 17th-place finishes, many wondered if the right-back would be exiting the club.

However, the Spanish international has now clarified that he never considered exiting the North London club, insisting that he prefered to remain in a place where he is loved.

When asked about the noise linking him to an exit from Tottenham after a poor season, Porro told Marca (as relayed by Sport Witness): “I never saw it that way. My mindset was to see it through, whatever it took. Every day I went to training thinking about helping the club get out of that situation because I felt it was my responsibility.

“I thought exactly the opposite. That’s why I say that what people think is secondary. At the end of the day, it’s you yourself who works and lives with the situation. There will always be people who think well or badly of you. I prefer to stick with the people who love me.”

Porro admits he is ‘very comfortable’ at Spurs

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Porro rejected interest from Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich to remain at Tottenham after the two sides held explorative talks with his representatives.

The former Sporting Lisbon man has confessed that he is very happy with life at the North London club and is now focused on the upcoming season.

He added about his decision to extend his Spurs contract: “I’m very happy. It was a place where I felt very comfortable, and now I can focus entirely on what needs to be done.”
