Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of securing Cody Gakpo this summer have become even tougher following Liverpool’s new stance.

The race for Cody Gakpo is now heating up with eight days left to go before the summer transfer window slams shut.

Tottenham Hotspur have long had the Dutchman on their radar, even agreeing personal terms with Gakpo, but they are yet to reach a deal with Liverpool.

Talks between Spurs and the Reds are understood to have stalled with Liverpool not looking to sanction a sale until they have secured a replacement.

The £130m-rated Bradley Barcola remains Liverpool’s number-one winger target this summer, but a deal with PSG has yet to be agreed, as the two sides have not agreed on a valuation.

Tottenham face tougher Cody Gakpo battle with new Liverpool stance

Manchester City have now entered the race for Gakpo, further complicating matters for Tottenham, who remain keen on landing the Dutchman.

City are said to have begun talks for Gakpo, with the Citizens’ interest coming after losing Omar Marmoush and Savinho to Tottenham.

Spurs’ chance of landing Gakpo has now become even more difficult, according to fresh reports from respected journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian claims that Liverpool will only sell Cody Gakpo if they can get two wingers in the next eight days, with priority remaining on Bradley Barcola.

He also confirms that Spurs have agreed personal terms with the Dutchman and that City are in active talks. However, a move now depends on the player, but only if Liverpool sign two wingers.

His tweet on X reads: “Liverpool will only sell Cody Gakpo if they can get two wingers in next 8 days; priority remains Bradley Barcola. Tottenham verbally agreed terms with Gakpo since July, Man City now also in active talks with his agents. Player to decide but also based on #LFC wingers plans.”

Cody Gakpo performance makes Spurs deal even harder

The Dutchman showed exactly what he is about in Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Newcastle United at St James’ Park.

Gakpo scored a stunning goal with a lovely strike from outside the box to draw Liverpool level after the Reds went a goal down early in the clash.

He was also the highest-rated player in the entire match after creating the most chances, having the most touches in the opposition box and taking the most shots.

This sort of performance after a strong World Cup campaign will ensure Liverpool demand a premium if they are to part with the Dutchman this summer.

But Spurs’ chances of a deal are getting slimmer each passing day with the summer window soon to close.
