Tottenham Hotspur are making progress in their pursuit of Sandro Tonali, amid suggestions that the Lilywhites face fresh competition from a Premier League rival.
Having completed a deal for Mateus Fernandes, Tottenham are now ready to break their transfer record for the second time in a matter of days to land Sandro Tonali.
It has been widely reported that Tonali has said ‘yes’ to Spurs, with some reports over recent days suggesting that the Lilywhites are now preparing a second mammoth offer for the 26-year-old after seeing their opening offer sent back by Newcastle.
However, some outlets have now claimed over the past 24 hours that Man City are also readying a huge offer for the Spurs midfield target.

Sandro Tonali continuing to prioritise a move to Tottenham
Journalist Alfredo Pedulla has now assuaged Spurs fans’ fears about the Tonali deal being hijacked by any of their Premier League rivals.
The journalist took to social media to insist that, despite suggestions to the contrary in the British media, the 26-year-old has never been close to joining any other English side.
Pedulla claims that the ‘prevailing sentiment’ has always been that Tonali is prioritising linking up with Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham, who are now looking to strike an agreement with the Magpies.
Spurs ‘ready to close’ Tonali deal
Pedulla subsequently posted another update on the transfer, stating that Tottenham’s announced offer for Tonali is over €100m (£86m).
He adds that the deal is now ‘ready to close’ and asserts that the former AC Milan man is now inching closer to completing a move to North London.
Pedulla said on X: Tonali: the announced offer from Tottenham to Newcastle is ready to close (over 100 million euros). Tonali is getting closer to Tottenham from Newcastle.”
