Luka Vuskovic has now spoken up for the first time since completing his move from Tottenham to Brighton and Hove Albion.

After several months of speculation, Luka Vuskovc has finally sealed a move away from Tottenham Hotspur after originally signing for the club from Hajduk Split in 2023.

The Croat never made a senior competitive appearance in a Lilywhite shirt, with Spurs sending him out on loan following his arrival on a seven-year deal.

However, with Vuskovic keen for more game time, he has now secured a permanent move to Brighton & Hove Albion.

Luka Vuskovic explains why he joined Brighton after Tottenham exit

Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler played a major role in the Seagulls landing Vuskovic during this summer’s transfer window.

After completing what is a £50 million move to the south coast, Vuskovic’s departure now ranks as the third-most expensive sale in Tottenham’s history.

While many Spurs supporters were disappointed to see the Croatian defender leave, it appears there was little the club could do to prevent the transfer.

Now, speaking for the first time since completing his move to Brighton, Vuskovic has explained what convinced him to join the Seagulls, revealing the influence Hurzeler had on his decision and why he is excited to begin the next chapter of his career.

Speaking after completing the transfer, Vuskovic said: “It was always Brighton from the first day. There were a lot of other calls, but as soon as I spoke with the coach, it was just Brighton.

“He told me the style he plays, and it is really nice to see. The league is for sure one of the best in the world, and I really like the project here.

“I think this club is the biggest machine in the world for producing young players. It gives you even more confidence and motivation to know that the club wants you that much.

“The coach and I talk a lot about my style and how he wants the team to play. I think it will be a good fit, and I will give my best to prove it to everyone. There are a lot of young players, and I am really excited to meet them all. There are a lot of top defenders, and I will have to compete from the first day.”

When asked what drives him now, Vuskovic added: “It is difficult to answer… but only goal is to win the game. But in life, it is the same. You want to win everything – to have a nice family, wife, and kids. On a personal level, I want to play as many games in the Premier League as possible. On a team level, I want to win the league and qualify for the Champions League. Those are big goals, and we will try to make them happen with all the power we have.

“I am very happy and proud that I can play in the best league in the world. Hopefully, I will have very good seasons here, and we will all be very happy.”

Spurs still stand to benefit from future Luka Vuskovic transfer

The structure of the deal means Tottenham could still make even more profit from Vuskovic in the future, with a former scout even describing the deal as ‘money laundering’.

That is because Spurs negotiated a 20 per cent sell-on clause as part of the agreement with Brighton, where the defender has signed a contract until 2031.

Tottenham also secured matching rights within the deal, allowing them to match any future offer should Vuskovic decide to leave Brighton later in his career.
