Tottenham Hotspur are all set for their first home fixture of the 2026/27 campaign when they welcome Newcastle United on Saturday, hoping to get their first points on the board.
It was a rather unexpected start to Tottenham’s Premier League campaign last weekend when they fell to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to Brentford.
However, they did manage to bounce back in midweek when they put five past Championship side Charlton Athletic in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
All the spotlight was on £85m new signing Savinho, who certainly lived up to the hype, scoring one and assisting another after coming off the bench with just 11 touches of the ball.
Newcastle United, under new manager Matthias Jaissle, started their Premier League season well and could have taken all three points had it not been for a last-second penalty conceded against Liverpool in a game that ended 2-2.
Like Spurs, they also advanced to the third round of the Carabao Cup in midweek, beating West Bromwich Albion 3-2 courtesy of a second-half Harvey Barnes brace.

Tottenham team news
Captain Micky van de Ven and his vice-captain Pedro Porro got their first minutes of the new season in midweek against Charlton, coming off the bench, and Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed they are both fit to start here.
In fact, the Italian admitted everyone who featured in midweek is fit, while also providing some good news on Mohammed Kudus, who has not featured since early January, revealing he could finally make the bench.
The bad news elsewhere is that James Maddison is expected to miss this fixture after suffering a shoulder injury during the Brentford defeat, one that could reportedly keep him out for around two weeks.
Other confirmed absentees are Xavi Simons, Wilson Odobert and Dejan Kulusevski.
Spurs’ latest signing, Omar Marmoush, has also been confirmed fit enough by De Zerbi, who added that the forward could even start.
Newcastle team news
In what will be a huge blow to the visitors, Willian Osula, who has been in great form, is set to miss at least two weeks after suffering an injury in the Liverpool game.
Jaissle will also be without the services of Dan Burn, Tino Livramento and Joelinton.
Predicted line-ups
Tottenham: Kinsky; Porro, Van Hecke, Van de Ven, Robertson; Tonali, Fernandes, Bentancur; Savinho, Solanke, Tel.
De Zerbi has already confirmed that Sandro Tonali will start this fixture after entirely missing the Charlton win.
Mateus Fernandes and Rodrigo Bentancur looked brilliant in midfield during that game, and we expect De Zerbi to keep them alongside Tonali rather than make any changes there.
Up front, as De Zerbi hinted, Marmoush could start, but we expect Solanke to retain his place after impressing against Charlton and scoring one of the goals.
Marmoush would likely come off the bench, particularly given he would have had only a few training sessions with the team.
Our Tottenham vs Newcastle prediction
Tottenham have not beaten Newcastle United since December 2023, having lost five of the six games played since then in all competitions.
The last meeting between these two sides ended 2-1 in Newcastle’s favour at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, a result that marked the end of Thomas Frank’s spell at Tottenham.
However, with De Zerbi now at the helm and taking charge of this fixture as Spurs boss for the first time, we expect him to get through it with three points.
And one player who could come in very handy is none other than his newest signing, Omar Marmoush, who has scored seven goals and provided one assist in five games against Newcastle United.
Predicted score: Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Newcastle United
