With the Premier League season now just around the corner, Tottenham’s search for further attacking reinforcements is starting to produce some fascinating transfer developments.
It has been an excellent start to Tottenham’s 2026 pre-season campaign, with Roberto De Zerbi’s side winning four of their five friendlies so far, while the other ended in a 1-1 draw against Getafe at the weekend.
Spurs have been able to create plenty of chances during pre-season, but their finishing has not been up to the required standard, which goes some way towards explaining why De Zerbi identified improving the attack as the club’s main priority.
The Italian has also revealed that he expects another two or three signings to arrive before the September 1 deadline. And With less than two weeks remaining before the Premier League season begins, here is a look at the latest Tottenham transfer news from the past few days.
Fabrizio Romano reveals Tottenham’s chances of signing Cody Gakpo
Cody Gakpo has emerged as ‘the leading contender’ among Tottenham’s attacking targets, with Spurs pushing for a deal and the Netherlands international understood to be open to a move to North London.
Liverpool, however, have no desire to sell him and have made it clear that it would take a significant proposal to change their position.
Fabrizio Romano has once again provided an update on the situation, this time giving his opinion on Tottenham’s chances of landing the Dutchman.
“For Gakpo, I think it really depends on the financial package because Liverpool never wanted to sell Gakpo. It’s never been a priority this summer, so they are very happy with Gakpo, also, Andoni Iraola, the board.
“So, if a big proposal financially arrives and if the player is keen on the move, Liverpool could consider this possibility; otherwise, they are not desperate to sell Gakpo, so that’s why the situation is at the moment, I would say 50-50, but Tottenham are trying.
“Tottenham are there, Tottenham are talking with the agents, so I think there is still a chance, a good chance to see this happening.”
Victor Osimhen dilemma and Real Madrid wonderkid Endrick
Reports from Turkey last week claimed that Spurs had submitted a £55m bid for Victor Osimhen, but Galatasaray are holding out for £65m after the Nigerian finished last season as their leading goalscorer with 22 goals in 33 appearances.
The transfer fee is not Tottenham’s only concern, either, as according to TeamTalk, Spurs would first need to make room for Osimhen by selling either Dominic Solanke or Richarlison, both to free up a place in the squad and create sufficient space on the wage bill.
Osimhen currently earns around €360,000 (£309,000) per week before tax in Turkey, but his take-home pay would drop considerably in England because of the higher tax rate. Tottenham would therefore need to offer him significantly more than his current salary to match his existing earnings.
Elsewhere, Spurs are one of several Premier League clubs to have held conversations about Endrick’s situation at Real Madrid, given the Brazilian has concerns about his playing time at the Bernabeu next season.
TeamTalk report that intermediaries working with Endrick have already begun exploring a possible move, with the Premier League emerging as his preferred destination should he leave Spain.
Real Madrid, however, would prefer another loan without an option to buy. But that could still suit Tottenham, who remain open to bringing the 20-year-old to North London even if it lasts just one season.
Fabrizio Romano names Pedro Neto as potential Savinho replacement
Tottenham’s attempts to bring Savinho to North London appear to have stalled over recent weeks, with Manchester City seemingly changing their valuation of the Brazilian since initial talks while also struggling to find his replacement.
Despite that, Fabrizio Romano still believes the former Girona winger has a very strong chance of ending up at Spurs, adding that Pedro Neto could become an alternative if the deal ultimately collapses.
“The priority, the number one, two, and three target remains Savinho, and I think at the end of the summer transfer window, Savinho has very, very good chances to join Tottenham.
“So I don’t expect any surprises here. Eventually, if the deal is not happening for Savinho, Pedro Neto could become an option for Tottenham Hotspur. So that could be an interesting situation to follow.”
There could also be another option emerging, with Tottenham insider Paul O’Keefe reporting that Spurs have added Villarreal’s Georges Mikautadze to their radar as a potential attacking target.
Could Cristian Romero recreate the Sol Campbell saga?
Tottenham have seen this before. A club captain crossing the North London divide to join Arsenal could now happen again, with several sources, including Fabrizio Romano, confirming that the Gunners have shown an interest in Cristian Romero.
Arsenal are reportedly prepared to offer ‘way higher’ than Romero’s other suitors, while the Tottenham captain himself is surprisingly understood to be open to the move. Spurs, however, have no intention of accepting an offer from their biggest rivals.
Atletico Madrid remain the frontrunners for the Argentina international and are preparing a second proposal worth €40m (£34.2m).
They are still yet to agree personal terms with Romero, although that is unlikely to prove a major obstacle given his reported desire to work under fellow Argentine Diego Simeone.
Inter Milan, meanwhile, have already agreed a €40m deal with Tottenham but are struggling to get the money together. The Serie A club need to sell players first, leaving their proposed move for Romero in limbo and potentially allowing Atletico to hijack the deal.
